Our History

Just as in Biblical times, the community of believers that is Peace Church began in 2006, meeting in people’s homes, restaurant meeting rooms, wherever we could. We would join together for Morning Prayer using the Book of Common Prayer. In 2007 our friends at Holy Cross Lutheran Church allowed us to use their sanctuary for worship. Father Don Overton served as our supply priest.

In 2008 we were granted Mission status by the Diocese of Indianapolis. With the help of the Diocese we purchased our current building at 818 Madison Street in Rockport. In November 2010 Rev. Dr. Beth Macke was appointed vicar to our parish.

We come together as an extended family to worship God in our humble sanctuary.  Those of us drawn to Peace share our gifts, and reach out to the surrounding community to help bring peace to those around us.

  • Our knitting ministry meets regularly and delivers prayer shawls to individuals fighting to overcome illness, wrapping the recipients in a tranquil sense of warm as they pray for healing and acceptance.
  • We have held a divorce care workshop, and we are planning a grief workshop to help support the local community.
  • Our youth have visited with the residents of (nursing home) and have volunteered at Sister Joanna’s Table at St. Paul’s in Evansville.

We invite others to join us in the celebration of Christ’s life and resurrection, and welcome newcomers with open arms.
